Brooke Shoot!

Recently we did a great shoot with a beautiful girl named Brooke. She is a very talented Rodeo  girl and is going off to college soon to pursue business and beauty.  How cool is that!?shoot was a blast! We started off with her in a bright red dress in a river with one of her many horses. It was really interesting and so many gorgeous shots came out of it.  She was quite of a trooper with the super cold water.

Then we went to this awesome building. The architecture was like nothing you have ever seen before, although it was falling apart. We got a lot of really neat shots with the green and white backgrounds. We also went of over to a set of railroad tracks and got some great shots there.

The day was coming to an end while we took some quick photos on some green grass in her cowgirl attire. It was super cute.

Overall, Brooke and her family were amazingly nice and super easy to work with. IT was a great session!

Added by Michelle:

This is the second session I have done with Brooke. She is so easy to photograph. Very photogenic (as you can see), so upbeat and positive, great personality and her family is awesome! Mom and Dad took the time to drive through Verdi and scope out some fantastic locations! They are always super helpful with the horses and clothing changes! Brooke has the best clothing and accessories! Her mom, Heidi made the beautiful red necklace in the shots with Brooke on the rail road tracks. Bailey, Brooke's sister is wonderful! Oh so patient and she has a constant smile! She really is adorable! I have to say, Brooke is very blessed to have such a fabulous family and I am so honored to have done her senior portraits!

Thank you so much for everything!

~ Michelle

Here are a few of my favorites...We were in Verdi @ the Truckee River, an old barn, The Verdi Inn and Steakhouse (which is boarded up), the tracks and a park.

Ashley!

Spring is finally in the air, especially in Genoa, one of Nevada's most beautiful and treasured historical landmarks (not to mention one of our favorite places to snap some photos!). There Gabi and Michelle met up with Ashley and her mother Donna for a great senior shoot in the little town. Ashley is a former senior rep and we were absolutely ecstatic to see her again. She's a graduating student at DHS, on her way to become a part of the military. She is a wonderful model with a beautiful smile, as you can see!

Senior Portrait Slide Show!

Brittany!

One of our latest shoots featured Brittany, a ninth grader at CVMS, for her quinceaƱera, which is a coming of age ceremony for a 15-year-old girl. We journeyed into the heart of Genoa to take some fresh spring portraits with some beautiful pines and aspens. Despite the reckless wind that sent everyone's hair flying all over the place, we were able to take some wonderful shots! What do you think? :)

Hey Mama, Welcome to the Sixties!

Recently we had a great time shooting our new senior rep. Thea's a sweet artsy intellectual lady who has a real knack for posing. She is a senior at DHS planning on attending the San Francisco Academy of Art University upon flying away from the nest. Thea is a huge photography buff who loves America's Next Top Model. It was a pleasure to work with her on two occasions. One at the Danberg Ranch, a beautiful little place with plenty of scenery, including a cute little retro car that perfectly reflected the sixties theme. For a second shoot we had the help of a stylist who gave Thea a perfect beehive hairdo, not to mention some very original and vibrant makeup. We stayed around the studio and had two wardrobe changes featuring vintage dresses and jewelry. Thea was a real head turner, let us tell you!

Photo contest, new office, and more!

Boy have we been as busy as a bee lately! Right now we're in the works of shifting our office so that we can be closer to Mike and the Grafx 8 studio. Organizing and reorganizing is quite the chore, what more can we say! But we're as excited as ever to have things moving along nicely.

Coming up this weekend is a big wedding shoot with a gorgeous theme: Tiffany's Jewelry! You may remember our recent shoot commemorating the engagement of Rob and Heidi, well, Saturday is their big day! We couldn't be more honored to be able to help create long lasting memories of their special day.

On another note, we've teamed up with Grafx 8, Lone Tree Art Gallery, and Douglas High School to set up a contest for all aspiring photographers at DHS! Any student is eligible to enter and we're offering some pretty fabulous prizes to winners, including big beautiful prints of their work and a free lunch at a local dining sensation: Saletti's.

Here's a peek at the flyer we made advertising the contest with the help of Mike's genius abilities in Photoshop!

Stay tuned for new wedding pictures and hopefully some outstanding contest entries!

Elspeth Summersgill

Hello world! My name is Elspeth Summersgill and I am a sophomore at Douglas High School and am thrilled to be a part of Redbarn Photography. The art is my passion and know that it is what I am meant to do. I am truly honored to be part of such a great team.  I think art is the only thing that keeps the world partly sane and I love to contribute to it. :D

I surround myself with creativity as much as possible. I play the guitar and am in love with music. I am an oldies type of girl. I mean, my favorite band is The Beatles! I listen to music constantly. It inspires my photography greatly. I try and draw my inspiration from my surroundings and what ever ideas pops into my head.

Recently, I received a Silver Key award in photography for the Scholastic competition for Northern Nevada for my piece Walking Through the Valley. They got over a thousand entries for all the art categories. To be honest I was really surprised but super excited. It was really awesome to be recognized for something that I love so much. I am definitely going to do it again next year. I am also the reporter for my school's chapter of SkillsUSA. I have a few competitions coming up and I am looking forward to seeing how I do.  In the summer of 2007 I traveled to Europe as a student ambassador and was amazed at what I saw. It really opened my eyes to a world beyond the small Carson Valley. I believe that the moment I stepped out of the plane into the airport I was determined to make a difference in this world and I really think that photography is going to be my way of doing it.

I am really looking forward to the many days ahead of working with Redbarn Photography. I am sure that many great things are going to come out of it and not to mention it is going to be a blast! I am really excited for everything to come.

New senior reps!

Just this Tuesday we had an absolute blast shooting two gorgeous girls, Jennifer Hobson and Tisha Lopez, who are two of our new senior reps for the 2009-2010 school year at Douglas High School. Jennifer loves make-up, hair, and modeling while Tisha digs dancing, music, fashion, art. They're both bubbly and fun (not to mention photogenic as well!) as we shot around outside the studio. Both girls had a multitude of cute, stylish outfits and didn't hesitate to mix it up as they switched clothing for different shots. This was Gabi's first time shooting with Michelle and with the help of Ray's artistic eye we were able to snap some really edgy photos!

Gabi Rose

Hello world!

My name's Gabi, and I've been asked to make an interweb introduction of myself on the RedBarn blog, so, here goes nothing! The lovely Michelle and Ray have graciously invited me to join their RedBarn family as an assistant photographer and technical support manager (best attempt at a professional title). Well, I couldn't be more excited! A little bit about me.. I was born seventeen years prior to February 8th. I have an unhealthy love of photography and the arts in general. Took one year of photo in school and a seminar at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, but I have done a lot of self-educating in the ways of photoshop and the like. Other things I like to do aside from hanging out behind a lens is singing, playing piano, trying to cook food network recipes with my boyfriend, drawing, eating at new restaurants, and reading (when I find spare time).

You should totally like add me on myspace and/or facebook!
And check out my work on deviantart if you'd like!

This is a picture of me!
